Danko Jones
Danko Jones has finally, after years of amazing live shows all over the world, gathered enough common decency to release a full-length album - Born A Lion - domestically. Danko Jones has conquered both Europe and their home territory of Canada, Soundscanning around 20,000 copies of this record in each region. Contrary to how most bands operate, Danko Jones have consequently maintained that it's not in record sales their future lies, but in the spectacular confrontation with the audience. Danko Jones is a band that leaves very few spectators, if any, unaffected. And of all shows the band has done, the most memorable so far has to be the opening slot for The Rolling Stones in Toronto last summer!! They have toured Europe for more than four months, including seve weeks supporting the Backyard Babies. They've also played some of Europe's biggest festivals, such as Ozzfest (UK), Kerrang Fest (UK), Roskilde (Denmark), and Hultsfred (Sweden)! Danko Jones also recently toured in Canada with Andrew WK supporting them! As a reward for all their hard work in Europe, Billboard magazine recently did a big feature in light of the Danko Jones European success story!
Born A Lion, the first "real" Danko Jones album, was released in most European territories on May 13th, 2002 and has been a hot import item throughout the USA since then. There's no real use in trying to explain either the lyrical or the musical content on Born A Lion with more words than "plain old-fashioned rock'n'roll." With texts so evidently timeless and influenced by the delta-blues heroes and with the bluesrock trademark coloring the music, we would say it could easily be an album produced thirty years ago as well as today. Maybe not with the same furious tempo, and minus the technical equipment that is, but we think you get the picture.
Rock'n'roll has never been the language of tenderness or compassion, for those purposes we have the entire pop genre. Rock'n'roll is the dissatisfaction, the rebellion, the discontent. Rock'n'roll is the physical manifestation of sexuality, tears, and anger. Danko Jones has made an album ensuring the tradition of rock'n'roll won't die for at least another couple of years. Music journalists proclaim, with frightening precision, every two years or so that rock'n'roll is dead. As long as Danko Jones is alive and on fire, there's no need to worry.
